Poetry > A Geography of the Heart

Still life & landscape : Midwest

Little prairie dog scampers across the road,
playing tag with death by wheels.

The highway sears
like a laser through the soil,
hot metal death-dealer
asphalt artery.

Above, equally oblivious,
mounds of mercurial vapour
conjure these forms
to fool the mind.
